LACEY, Wash. – The Energy Facility Site Evaluation Council invites the public to take part in the sixth meeting of the Transmission Corridors Work Group focused on electricity transmission and distribution through public comment.
The Transmission Corridors Work Group meets for six separate meetings running from September 2021 to June 2022, including public comment periods that will take place at the end of each meeting.

BACKGROUND
Section 25 of the 2019 Clean Energy Transformation Act mandated the creation of the Transmission Corridors Work Group. The work group has 20 representatives from state agencies, affected utilities, Public Utility Districts, local government, tribal governments, and statewide environmental organizations.
The purpose of the work group is to review the need for upgraded and new electricity transmission and distribution facilities, find areas where transmission and distribution facilities may need to be enhanced or constructed, identify environmental review options that may be required to complete these corridors, and recommend ways to expedite the review of transmission projects without compromising required environmental protection.
The work group must send a report of its findings to the Governor and Legislature by Dec. 31, 2022.

EFSEC is the state agency charged with providing one-stop permitting for certain types of major energy projects in Washington. EFSEC specifies the conditions of construction and operation. The council also manages an environmental and safety oversight program of facility and site operations.
