Private Railroad Crossings

State law gives the commission authority to inspect and develop safety standards for private railroad crossings where railroads haul or will haul oil tank cars (RCW 81.53.430). The commission developed rules (WAC 480-62-270) to implement the law and routinely inspects private crossings where railroads haul oil tank cars to ensure compliance.
